The FSM has the ultimate say on this - I think the fixings on the casing are the same so it should bolt up.

May be Matureo can add in more about the swapping between W123 and W126
Thanks stretch I did some searching at a parts supplier and they list 2 different part # saying the 123 box will fit from 77-85 and the 126 box fitting from 81-91 yes maybe Matureo can add to. I hope I can get the pitman arm off with a good puller and no heat have not tried yet

Removing the Pitmans arms from both boxes is probably going to be key to your success with this. Good luck.

The mounting holes on the w126 and w123 boxes are different enough to make a swap impossible. I've tried several times to do this, even trying to fabricate an adaptor plate. It's just not feasible without some serious fabrication to either the box or the body, neither of which was reasonable in my opinion.

(I wanted a w126 box on my w123 because the w126 boxes have more spring compensation for play as part of their design)

Yes thanks Matureo that is good to know as somewhere I did read they were all interchangeable guess you cant believe everthing you read. I was going to put one in from a 123 chasis I have a 126 glad I did'nt and instead after carefully reading the excellent (diy) by you, stretch, and a Dave Petryk I just went with ordering a seal kit and repairing my own. Thanks for the help and information guys.

I haven't looked at my steering box in the Benz, not sure if this could apply.

But here is a fun repair I did to the steering box in my Chevy.

Opened up the top of the box and crammed it full of grease and I mean full. No more leakes, no replacing pesky seals and it works perfectly.

I assume that was for a manual steering box - with these Mercedes power steering boxes clogging them up with grease probably wouldn't stop leaks

It's power steering and has been working great like that for a very long time.

The fluid was removed, there is nothing to leak.
