Sounds like a nice trip. I really liked my ventures in the 240ds as well. They are a car you really have to drive. I enjoyed the challenge of that.
No time to drive mine now. Even though I have the hot rod version with the four speed manual. We have many hills in my roaming territory. With a 240d any rise in elevation becomes a hill it seems. |

Road Trippin'
(with apologies to SteveMCARThy) .
Yes, it's a great road car and every hill is an adventure . Me , I like to tourist so being slow isn't any problem . Oddly , I have passed more vehicles on this trip than I usually do in Los Angeles . Here in the U-Pay&Pull Self Service Junk Yard in Albuquerque, on Broadway there's a decent 1981 240D that's never going back on the road, someone was trying to solve a hard starting problem and so fitted a rebuilt starter, new BOSCH glow Plugs and not too long ago, rebuilt fuel injectors . Naturally , no one bothered to adjust the valves so it was junked with all these new parts on it...... I got all those plus the full length oil cooler (a thing I've been thinking of adding) for a paltry $101.93 including tax and core charges . SWEET ! . I woulda gotten more but there simply wasn't that much else I needed . I have been mostly driving old Route 66, enjoying the Desert breezes etc.
