Questions about freshening up an 84SD engine wiring.

1. Are the accordion type boots located between the hinge side of the doors and the body available? Where do I buy the good ones?

2. Are the plastic/vinyl harness sleeves which hold the wiring in the engine bay still available and where can I get proper replacements?

3. Is there any source for the zip ties which snap into a hole in the body?

I'm not sure about the boots for the door harnesses but the tubing and push mount cable ties are readily available on AMAZON from many sources.

AND, you have to be (almost) as careful on Amazon as Ebay when it comes to shipping. The main difference is that Amazon is rougher on vendors for slow fulfillment and the price is a little higher. So say friends that sell on both.

Consider the amount of work to unhook all the wiring in the door to replace to accordion. I see good ones at wrecking yards but I'm not up to taking everything apart. It's not a problem where I am.

A friend back into my left front door so I must replace it. I'm retired and need the work to feel as if I'm still productive.

"Front panel pillar to front door cable protective hose" is a dealer item.
MB Part number 1268210397.
You need two per each front door.

The front rubber boots were replaced on my 78 300SD with the doors on the car.
DIY Pictorial - Replacing rubber boots from cabin to door

Since you are replacing the door, a pictorial DIY would be a great addition to DIY section.
Especially dealing with the soldered wires to the electric seat controls.
My soldering skills are minimal at best, so I would just install crimp-on spade connectors with marine grade adhesive lined heatshrink tubing.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Edit: Loom ties are also available from the dealer.
Or you can pull a used one, just remove the central locking pin before you pull it out of the mounting hole.

Soldering? I'd disconnect the wires in the door and thread them through the replacement accordion. Easier if there are connectors in the footwell but there aren't in a 124 so I'm guessing not in a 126 either.

If memory serves, you can disconnect the back door window wires by dismantling the plastic connectors. I have a few pictures of a 6 pin connector in the back door, which means that I took it apart and re-assembled it to pull the window motors for refurbishment. I think that would let you pull the wires through the accordion.

If the electrical connectors on the seat controls won't go through the rubber boots then just open them and pull the wires through one at a time. A quick snapshot of the opened connectors with all the wires in place will serve as instructions on how to put them back in correct position.

Right now I'm working on removing the engine harness from the SD and moving it to the SE body. Here's the schedule, pardon that there are no durations listed.

1. Remove the SD engine harness and install on the SE body including hooking it to the 617 engine and it's tranny.

2. Move the differential yoke from the SD and install on the SE differential.

3. Install the complete drive shaft on the SE along with the heat shield.

4. Hook up the fuel supply and return on the 617 to the SE system. That includes removal of the electric pump on the SE and changing the fuel tank's filter-screen.

5. Install the exhaust down pipe and the rest of the exhaust system.

6. Move the vacuum lines from the SD including the ignition vac lines and moving all that to the SE body.

After getting the car running I intend to restore the alpaca grey leather interior. I am saving my pennies to buy new leather for the front seat. Somewhere during that time I will change the door.
