83 SD 617+722.3 into 116 SD - how much work??

Is it just wrenching to get an '83 SD engine and transmission into a 116 SD or does it require fabrication?

It should be mostly wrenching. Since it's an SD engine, you'll already have the proper oil filter housing. You will need to source engine support arms and oil pan from a 115/116 617 due to the different subframe configuration. You may be able to mill the waffle reinforcing off you current pan to clear.

If I think of something else I'll add it later.

The engine bay and the front suspension of the W116 is the forerunner of the W126; the two are very similar. They do not use a subframe of the type seen in the 107/114/115 chassis.

I don't foresee major problems with the engine. How will things line up for the 722.3 in a 116? Is a 722.3 a direct swap for a 722.1 in an older 123?
