It was a routine check on brake pads about a month ago Before I pulled the tires off, I decided to check to see if my wheel bearings were OK. I lifted the car and positioned my hands at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position to shake the tire. I could feel a lot of play The Front Right wheel bearing was shot and brake pads were worn. I decided that it would be good to replace the wheel bearings and get the rotors turned (machined). Front Right Rotor was difficult to remove and thought it was due to the bad wheel bearing. Finally removed the rotor and saw that the bearing was really bad. Took my rotors in to a repair shop and next day got the rotors with new wheel bearings back and so I proceeded to install them that weekend RF rotor was again difficult to install but never worried because I had called the repair shop explaining how difficult it was to push one of the rotors all the way in. Owner of shop was not concerned and so I continued to install it. Installed the rotors and went to install the pads on the removed calipers. I got stuck with the LF caliper because as I pushed on one caliper piston, the other side (piston) would pop out. I could not get them to open up at the same time and thought that I needed a special tool As I continued to try push both caliper pistons in (create space to fit over rotor), one of the rubber boots came off one of the pistons. Lacking experience with rebuilding calipers, I played it safe and decided to purchase new calipers. |
