Radiator Removal Help OM606
I have a 99 E300. I'm trying to remove the radiator but I can't get to the bottom bolt that attaches to that trans cooler to disconnect the line. The intercooler is blocking it. At least I think that's the intercooler! It's furthest to the passenger side near the passenger fog lamp. I got the the bolt that sits between the trans cooler and passenger headlight up top.
Also, is there supposed to be a lot of torque on those line fittings on the bottom? And do I necessarily have to remove them? Because what it looks like is if i disconnect them from the trans cooler, i dont have to loosen the fittings. Everytime I loosen them also, they just bend around and seem on there ungodly tight. I don't want to strip the threads or damage anything. First time I had to replace the radiator so I'm a nooby. I also need to remove the fan blade is well. How is that accomplished?

Fan comes off by a 8mm hex key in the center of the clutch up front.
Need a counter- holder inserted in the back of the water pump mounting flange. There is a special tool that is sold for it (fan clutch tool - works on many engines) but you could just use some bent steel of a proper diameter. an fsm would solve much of these curiosities. search for w124 zone. |

Well, I removed all the fittings and I wasn't paying attention the other fitting, and my one trans cooler line bent and broke! The radiator doesn't want to come out at all.. Do i have to remove the trans cooler to slide out the radiator or can it come out as a piece? I know theres rubber mounts on there, but i tugged it pretty good and it didn't come loose or wanna come out!
