Baby got a new pair of shoes!!
Picked up these BBS rims and tires (95% tread on them) off of Craig's list last night. Don't know how old the rims are, but they are marked made in W. Germany. They are 7 1/2" x 16" offset is ET22. Tires are 225/45R16 Toyo's. I wish they were 50% aspect ratio, as that would be closer to the stock size. These are just a bit over 3/4" shorter. No fit issues at all!, in fact the car was pulling to the right before, and now its gone. Really looks good with the green paint.

That is one gorgeous wagon, love the color (although I love the DOKA more!).

Nice to see something other than bundts or CLKs. I agree that thicker rubber would fill out the considerable wheel wells on these cars better, but that's an easy change down the line. Been keeping an eye out for something interesting myself.

Those looks awesome!
In the early '90's my dad traded in his W123 300D N/A with Bundts for a W124 200D with those exact rims! (that was in Europe). I liked those wheels as a kid too! He got it like that from the Mercedes dealer, and the logo in the middle was the Mercedes star, but the rims looked identical to what you have there. I should see if I can find pictures of that somewhere...Were those rims ever an option on these cars? Great find man. Congrats!

Dealer option, not actually Mercedes, and surprising that they are 16s in the late '80s, I believe those are RSs. I had gold ones on my '85, but by about '89 gold was overdone on RX7s and everything else. Many copycat wheels flooded the market and BBS wheels were less common than clones. Actual BBS is period correct and an amazing find, get a drool rag for your next GTG or show, ... again what a great '80s look on that car.

Also, there is a date wheel cast into the back of the wheel, the two-digit number in the center is the year, but pre-Berlin wall falling with West Germany for certain.

Beautiful car, the wheels really work well with it.
Love the 'Mogs in the background, too.

Thanks guys, I have put a lot of work into this car to get it in the condition it is now. The rims are marked RG 006, so they are forged and not cast. Should weigh less than the 14" Bundts. I think the tires will need to be swapped out to 225/50R16's as with this aspect ratio, they would be about the same diameter as 195/70R14. I have 5 center caps and have swapped out the BBS logo on one with the Mercedes star, but have not decided which one I like more.

The star logo was available on many lesser wheels, the BBS logo only on real BBS wheels, I always left mine with the BBS logo.
The RG are melt-forged, I've had RGs and they had date wheels in them.

I think they fit car color well. My 82 SD needs hood, roof and trunk painted. Best price is 2,500 so far and since hood and trunk are AL I don't need to worry about rust. I did upgrade my wheels and purchased new chrome lug bolts for my chrome bundts. I wonder if these are OEM or not. They are getting rust pitting in 2 of them. Anyway good find on the wheels!

With boots like those it needs to sit a bit lower down in my opinion
(Sorry not my cup of tea but I appreciate the rarity and the difficulty in finding a decent set)
