The ad is rich with obscure references that only need a quick Google search to explain.

" I have traversed the Serengeti of my life in this vehicle, we have had many wonderful times together but I'm looking to turn the page, I'm thinking of getting an Alfa Romeo, 2 seats just me and a babe that sounds good right?

This is not just a car it's a lifestyle. it's a European luxury vehicle with a tortoise shell interior. "

Breaking this down, the following sounds like a quote from a movie / play / TV show "I have traversed the Serengeti of my life in this vehicle. " . As it turns out the above is a quote with some artistic license. ?
Amazing you dug this up. Wow. That explains it. Kind of an inside joke.

Selling the parts would be a tough money maker. I guess I was thinking I could have used the interior and fuel tank for my 240 when I still had it.

Best of Craigslist right here. And I love the "sunny" references.

Legend has that's the W123 prototype right there.

On the topic of subject, it was a joke hope no one took it serious. We could tell he was joking as well.. I'd say it was a good selling point, I'd buy it for $300 it made me laugh.

FYI... the flasher in the car (if it works) is worth the asking price for the car to someone needing one... they are unobtainable by any other means...

But wait, there's more. Below is the e mail train from the seller outlining the movie history of the car. Also see the IMDB link In the House of Madness (2016) - IMDb and maybe the IMCDB site at some point.

Yes please do share its a movie car. I'm a car guy too, I have a 59 rambler that also shows up in the film.
I consulted peachparts quite abit to get the car up and running.
I picked the Mercedes specifically because it was diesel, and wouldn't need to pass emissions, and had a low chance of catching on fire when hit repeatedly in the rear.

Great little car, would be quite fun with a turbo and an alignment.

Cool, would it be OK if I post your reply and the IMDB.com link to the movie on the Mercedes list?
The movie connection adds to the fun.

I'm the guy ( 97 SL320 ) that got it. The line ( and others ) "I have traversed the Serengeti of my life in this vehicle " Immediately made me think of an interview with Carrie Fisher where she stated some of her lines in Star Wars were difficult to work through because no one in real life talks like that.

There are pockets of guys that keep old Mercedes running as daily drivers in various states of repair so interest in the car for parts isn't surprising.

After one especially difficult scene, she said to Lucas “You can type this stuff, but you can’t say it”.

Haha awesome! The car was used in a car chase scene for the movie, "in the house of madness". It took a beating and was still running after being driven off a cliff. Thought I'd have a little fun before making a serious craigslist ad to dispose of it. Surprisingly I've had some interest in it!

Glad you guy got the humor in it!

Hi, Over on one of the Mercedes message boards you car is getting some air play. The person that started the thread doesn't " get " the ad but a quick goggle search turns up that much of it came from the FX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

You can do a search for the diesel section of Peach Parts forum of go to this link ( I've broken up so it does not get stuck in a spam filter. )

PS
I immediately got the intent of the ad and a quick Google search filled in the details.

97 SL 320,

Thanks for providing the link to the show. I took the ad with a grain of salt, and could see that it was posted in some humor, but would not have thought to try to look up the quote.

Interesting to note that the dash does not appear to have any cracks. Might be the best part of the car!

Regards,

W.
