what parts would you pull of a dead 240D?

friends 240D grenaded the motor. it was at the mechanics for a few weeks and we just had it towed back here. looking for ideas on desirable parts to pull. but theres no driveways or garages here so it's on the street. anything that can easily be pulled while the car sits on the street and not make it look abandoned. so like the wheels, glass and bumpers probably gotta stay on. the car can sit for probably a week or two but then we have to get it out of here. it's an early model... 1977. anything on the early models besides the emergency flasher switch that is NLA? gonna pull the outside trim and probably all the interior trim, it's the early black plastic stuff.

Might as well pull any electrical relays or controllers. If the engine is shot, maybe pull the valve cover if it is in good shape. Door/trunk seals if they are in decent shape, window regulators, lights if they are in decent shape, door strikers if they are in decent shape. There's really a lot you could pull, the question is can you store it and do you really want to spend the time selling extras? I'd suggest putting stuff up on the for sale section for cheap or free if you want to get rid of everything people would want or need relatively quickly.

good idea about the seals but i know they're rotten :/ i have plenty of room to store most things that i'd be able to pull. i don't mind selling or trading extras. theres a vibrant w123 community here in the bay and i'm sure most things wouldn't stick around too long.

If it's a manual, pull the trans, shifter, flywheel, and driveshafts (they can't see it's gone once it's out). That would have the cast iron Mercedes trans so it'll be HEAVY relative to the Getrag but stronger - these fit behind an OM617 as well as the 616 so there's a good market for it. If it's an automatic - well, never mind......

The injection pump if the engine ran well before the Issue. Also if the radiator is decent looking and the car did not run hot.

Get rid of it

There is only one way if you have no decent place to park it and pull parts. You are kidding yourself about removing many small items many of which are worth a dollar or two. My advice, call the junk yards, and get a price including pickup.

IF you have a place to store, go buy an electric impact gun and buzz it apart. Disassenbly goes really fast. Just store in boxes keeping parts from an area together. You could also offer to anyone that will give you what the yard will if the only issue is the engine.

Many here have extra engines but it sounds like you're not in a position to install.

lol thanks for all the suggestions but i don't have a lift nor the time or ability to dismantle this entire car while it sits on a public street. i was really just looking for suggestions for NLA parts on the early models... like the flasher relay.. or the hella expensive glow plug relay.. maybe something i forgot about.... blower motor.

injection pump is a good idea, wouldn't have done that. which just reminded me it has the expensive monark primer pump which i had forgotten about.

axles are not terribly difficult to remove... but a jack is required.

shame to send them to the crusher. axles are harder and harder to find.
