240D - 123 Body, Instrument Cluster - removal

I have a bezel on one of the instrument gauges that has slipped out of position (and rattles) and I'd like to try and fix it. Can you remove the instrument cluster without getting in the backside? There is a lot of stuff back there that I would need to remove to open it from the back and I'd rather not make it a two day project...
Thanks

You can try to make some thin hooks out of coat-hangers or something, and pull it out that way. Most people find it easier and faster to go up behind and push it out. All you have to do is remove the kick panel.

This is the easiest to access instrument cluster since a Model A Ford.

Simply pry loose the three trim pieces below the steering wheel along the top of the kick panel and remove the three phillips screws, then remove two grey phillips head fasteners lower in the kick panel by turning them 1//4 turn, then pull out. This will allow you to lower the kick panel and reach up behind the instrument cluster and push it out.

If you need to completely remove the cluster, remove the thumbwheel for the speedo cable, unplug the connector behind the left side of the cluster by simply pulling and then remove the oil pressure line with a 10MM open end wrench, very little oil will leak. Then on the right side there will be a connector or two at the bottom for some of the lights in the bottom row. You can have all this done in fifteen minutes after you've done it once.

Then you can take it to the workbench and fix your rattle.

This is all very straight forward and goes back together well. Nothing to be intimidated about.

Good luck,

Thanks folks. I'm going to owe this board a great deal by the time I get this car "cleaned" up.
