oil squirters on om617
 

hey guys I am new here I am in the process of rebuilding an om617 td 1983 I think I didn't number the oil squirters what do I need to do
any problem with just putting them in randomly

Same deal for me. When I tore down my failed 1985 OM617 engine, I didn't number the squirters. The manual and/or people here say it matters. Can't recall if they look identical. If you can figure out the way the oil supply flows, I expect the ones with the smaller flow ports go upstream.

Good info. to keep in mind as I have 2 failed 617 motors that I will have to rip down sometime and try to rebuild 1 out of the 2.

you say failed did it failed did it fail after the rebuild because of the oil squirter mis sequence

also if you look at them they seem identical but they are numbered differently on the part of the squirter that faces the piston I have two numbered 3 and two numbered 4 and one that reads 5
I mean Mercedes put the engine number and their logo but could not number them I think we bombed them too much back in the 40s

Size of orfices should increase as the distance from the crankshaft oil feed input. I am nor certain but suspect that is smaller at the back of the crank.

Should be easy enough to check. In an oiling diagram of these engines. I am basing this on logically the further down the line the oil pressure is constantly reduced. I could be totally wrong though.

This isn't much information, however the service manual states "do not mix up oil spray nozzles". It also says the nozzle bore is 1.5mm. Do not use hard objects for cleaning nozzle bore. The service manual sucks. FYI the torque on the screw is 10Nm. I know not any help, but I'll keep looking through manual

Haven't rebuilt. Failed from pistons losing chunks at 330K miles. Another engine in since.
