Post Interior Help

W123, the rear side pillar inside trim panel the seat belt goes through .

I need to learn how to remove it without breaking it ~ I've tried several ways on junkers in the ready to crush row and i always seem to break it where the single solitary clip that holds it in place connects .

I'm sure someone here knows ? .

TIA, a pic. would be helpful .

You must mean sedan, as the wagons are sheet metal.

Trouble is these old plastics crack under the slightest pressure. Might just have to check the Classic Center, surprising what is still available.

Does the clip break, or the whole piece?

Got some tan J.B. Weld made for interior plastics was going to try, but time...

that piece pulls down. make sure you're not pulling it straight out or side to side or twisting it. just gently pull it down towards the floor.

edit... are you talking about the center pillar? or the rear sail piece that has two clips.. if you are talking about the rear sail try this, it says the piece has to be removed from the outside:

Thumbs up

Thank you ! .

It actually says to pull it straight forward, I tried that after looking at how the metal clips go into the body but no joy .

I'll have to go back and find some more crusher fodder .

The deal is this : my Teenaged Foster boys slammed both rear seat belts in the back doors ('82 Sedan) and broke the plastic part . I've been hunting for some good un worn out seat belts for a while now and found an '82 Sedan in VGC that was badly wrecked so I took the entire seat belts out for my car .

Technically this is SWMBO's car so I cannot leave it with a broken / missing inner sail trim panel whilst I search for a new one if I break this one removing it......

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting the proper page from the FSM ! .

Wonder if the wagon could be cut to fit the sedan? Then you have something that wouldn't keep breaking.

Just a very late night thought...

No ;

the Wagon's fiber cover is completely different .

I need to address this on the rear most pillars of my European Wagon as they're curling and peeling off .

IIRC the 'C' Pillar covers on the Wagons are metal with upholstery glued to them (?) .

Any and all thoughts are always most welcome ~ I learn more here than I could ever give back .

You are thinking of the D pillars and I the C pillars.

Trouble is, never seen a sedan parked and up close.

Got the D major mess on the '85, but now she is needing a donor transplant to an older woman...

Been meaning to ask the Classic Center if still available, since glued on and can't be salvaged (tried and failed miserably). If not, see about getting a close match in the vinyl and recover?

No, none of the wagons I have have the third row seat. If could find a blue one for a good price, be sorely tempted to just for the fact so weird. Plus, those times when I had to haul four people (they didn't even put the seat up, just all sat on the cargo floor like preschool children, with Ember enjoying the company).

According to my German friends in Engineering at Mercedes, Mercedes sedans have A, B, and C pillars, where the S/wagon has A, B, T, and C pillars.

The rearmost is shaped like a C, the next foreward like a T as it was explained to me.

Thanx Jeff ~ as usual I learn a new thing here every day .

Our Teenaged Foster boys all love to ride in the third seat ~ most have never been anywhere so we like to load 'em up and take to the mountains or other non City places for fun .

I had to remove both trim pieces to replace the rear windshield on my 85 a few years ago. Look up instructions in the FSM for rear windshield replacement..... the steps to remove them are in there. I do not remember the details of removal but here are some pics from spares removed from a parts car.

As for A,B,C,D pilars and why they are called such, I was never sure and looked it up. Looks like it is alphabetical from front to back. If a convertible, or a car with no pillar (all glass) between the 2 doors, the B letter is skipped.

I managed to break the plastic where the metal clip is, why I'm worried .
