300sdl muffler
 

The exhaust on my 300sdl consists of a large muffler, and then a cylindrical resonator at the tailpipes. I understand the resonator is a straight through design with little restriction, but has anyone ever taken apart one of these mufflers? Is there anything inside that can clog up?

My '86 has a sort of "square" looking pre-muffler kind of under the left rear passenger seat. In my case, it was full of soot and has several pinholes. My intention is to get it replaced with a straight-pipe directly to the rear muffler.

To answer your question, it's mostly empty inside, other than a couple of baffle plates. Mine was definitely full of soot (and I do mean FULL of soot).
