State Farm refuses to use anything but their validation program, which produces a value at least half that of N.A.D.A. ($6,000 versus $16,900). If you don't agree, too bad, so sad, as will not negotiate. Most likely, they will say your vehical is worth less than $2,500 and total it. Sorry to keep at telling bad news, but hope it prepares you for the long battle ahead. Best of luck.

Yeah, I'm prepared. If I don't agree with them I don't know what recourse I have. I know I will keep the car and I know I will get it fixed...that's what matters in the long run.

Yes, we do keep them. At least yours wasn't towed away, as mine was damaged in the yard. Glad you are prepared and hope was of some help.

State Farm adjuster assessed damage and they are cutting me a check for $1882 (which, interestingly, is almost the exact midpoint of the range of what my auto body guy thought it might cost).
So, we'll see what they find when they take it apart. Goes in on Thursday.

Chief Ez liner, Chief Ez liner, Chief Ez liner, anything else and your car may not be repaired properly. Do you really want that?

might want to check those ball joints. the wheels are buckling inwards from the bottom and causing the car to keep itself raised. If you jack up a side and the wheel sort of scrubs inwards as the suspension unloads and the car stays raised up after removing the jack, the immediate next item to check is the ball joints.

On their payroll I take it? Any machine is only as good as it's operator, high end racks just give you speed. ( Same goes for high end alignment racks ) Regardless, the car in question is barely hit and will take nearly zero effort to bring back. How many crashed cars have you fixed? |

It is normal for track width to change when most suspensions are unloaded so the above test isn't valid. Only a straight axle would not have a track width change. |

New imaging and diagnostic techniques PROVED beyond any doubt that yes, people can and do suffer permanent injuries in very low speed collisions. Whip lash is the most common and there is one particular law firm that SPECIALIZES in shutting down big bad insurance company lawyers and making them pay and pay and pay and pay. Take that same concept over to the car in question; unless you have laid your eyes on the car in question, your only information is what has been posted in this thread. What may appear perfectly normal to the naked eye may show fracture stress cracks while undergoing metallurgical testing (see link). Ditto for Chief EZ liner; don't knock it until you've seen it WORK. https://www.labtesting.com/services/materials-testing/metallurgical-testing/ This much I know, if I'm considering the purchase of an automobile and find out it has been in any type of accident, I'm sh** all over the deal locating all available details of the accident and repair procedures that were utilized to fix it. If it doesn't measure up to my high standards, I walk out on the deal leaving the owner to pawn off his worthless junk of a car to some other sap sucker. NEWS FLASH: I'm not the only car buyer who runs sellers of cars that have been involved in accidents through the proverbial ringer. There are others out there plus, in the event the NEW owner gets into an accident, they may retain a sharp lawyer who is going to dig up EVERY POSSIBLE record they can regarding the automobile in question. If they find bent frame/strut/stress fracture issues involving the previous accident, they are going to kick the can back to the previous owner. Seen it done. Husky, you sound like a pita. We aren't talking about a high dollar vehicle. Were you to give me that crap, I'd let you reverse your route and drive back the same way you came. These cars are high mileage, inexpensive and sold as is. Buy it or not. Fix it or not. I as a seller don't care and simply say "next".

If it is found that the previous repair shop didn't repair the car according to industry standards, somebody or perhaps multiple somebodys (prior insurance company and the prior owner(s)) are going to get drug into court and they won't like it. In the legal biz, they call these people "hostile witnesses" because they would much rather be sipping a pina colada on a beach than forced to testify in court. Sometimes they come into the courtroom yelling and screaming at the plaintiffs and the plaintiff's lawyers because they would much rather be on that beach sipping on a pina colada. Once the judge orders them to STFU, they finally realize they best change their behavior. So, yes, as a seller you have the absolute right to tell picky buyers to buzz off. But don't go to sleep at night thinking that as a seller of a vehicle that may not have been repaired properly according to industry standards means you are completely off the proverbial hook either. Remember, the insurance company does NOT choose the repair facility, YOU DO which means you have a dog in the hunt. Rest easy...... Last edited by HuskyMan; 11-03-2016 at 09:32 AM. |

I am enjoying the spirited discussion. Rest assured I am not taking the car to "Joe's Auto Body and Salvage." The shop I've used for the last ten years is absolutely top shelf. When I drive up and see him doing things like restore a vintage 1950s Rolls Royce my confidence is only increased. I'll let everyone know what he finds.

I have a lot of respect for anyone in the bodyshop business. It is a tough business to be in, there are a lot of people to answer to plus it requires a lot of expensive tooling to properly perform repairs.
Update: With the advent of aluminum body cars and trucks, the body shop business is poised to make a lot of $$$$$$ repairing these aluminum cans. If I had the money to start a body shop, I'd fire one up RIGHT NOW. Ford, Jaguar BRING ON THE ALUMINUM BABY, I NEED THE BUXX!!!!!! |
