It effects it indirectly. Assume you adjsut your alda, get better power, especialy off the line. You now have your foot at a lesser throttle position but are accelerating quicker and putting more power to the trans and driveline. But the poor dumb transmission has only the throttle position (84 and older) to tell it what's going on. So, your now accelerating harder with less throttle, you have soft shifts, which is exactly what you do not need in this case. As *neat* as the system MB designed is, and despite the fact it was probibly very good for it's day, it has a lot of flaws. I imagine if you made any real low end power gains you'd see some real funkyness. All these systems interplay with each other, all of them, connected or not.

What would cause a slight 2-3 shift "flaring" only when cold? Out of adjustment?

I had that one for a long time. It was a vacuum leak.

I have that too, along with most other odd transmission things normal for these cars.

Changed the fluid again yesterday, yet again, the pan was absolutly spotless.
Looked as clean as it did 30K miles ago. But I still can't get a consistantly good 3/4 shift. Oh well.

There sure is a lot of plastic in that tranny looking at the valve body.
