New member! 1982 240d 80K miles
Hey guys! Long time luker, but finally became a member!
Wanted to share with you my 1982 240d 4 spd manual.. 80K original miles.. I am the second owner since the late 80's.. Buying a whole list of stuff off pelican parts.. full front end refresh of all the tie rods and bushings.. I see alot of items have the "oem supplier" stamp on it, is that truely a oem type part made for benz or just another aftermarket alternative? I have a few mercedes source items i have purchased but i believe they are meyle, seems like the forum likes only Lemforder or genuine oem benz.. is this true? I Might have to replace a few meyle items i bought in prep for my car, that i had gotten from mercedes sourc. Last edited by 5soko; 11-02-2016 at 05:25 PM. |

Welcome to the forum and thank you very much for your business; we appreciate it very much and pride ourselves on providing quality parts for you guys! In regards to the OEM vs. Genuine Parts, here is our official stance on it (different from our site):
What exactly does it mean when a part comes from an OEM supplier? When BMW first designs and builds a car, it subcontracts out with many different suppliers (most of whom are German companies) to supply parts for the car. For example, Behr is an original equipment supplier to BMW, and the new BMWs that left the factory often had Behr radiators in them (Behr is also an OEM supplier for Porsche). With today's global economy, a lot of these OEM suppliers are manufacturing parts for the cars all over the world - both for the aftermarket (like the parts that we sell), and for the original cars themselves. Bosch, for example, has shifted a large portion of its manufacturing to Asia in an attempt to reduce the costs associated with the high cost of German labor. In many cases, it may not be possible to get a particular part manufactured in Germany, because so much of the production of the "German" cars and parts is done outside of Germany. Pelican prides itself in selling only OEM quality replacement parts. These parts are manufactured by the same suppliers to BMW and Porsche and are direct replacements to the ones offered by the BMW dealers. In almost all of the cases, the part that you would receive if you bought it from a BMW dealership, would be the same part that we are offering. The only difference is that the dealer delivers these parts in a BMW box, and at up to 3-5 times the cost of the OEM part. Unfortunately, the odds are that if you went into the BMW dealership and bought the same parts that came in BMW boxes, they would be 3-5 times more expensive, and would also be made in Italy, and South Africa. -Dmitry |

Welcome to the Forum.
That is a very nice looking 240D. 82 in New York, with the harsh winters, salt etc... and looks that nice....wow. Must have been the original owners second fair weather car. OH, and a 4-spd, now not a lot of those around for sure. Searching on CL, the majority are auto trans. Meyle, Febi, are two that are reboxers of Chinese parts. Uro is definitely one to stay away from. Some will argue they are ok. Lemforder or MB Dealer parts are the best way to go. They may cost more, but will last for the long haul. If you are going to remove the front springs, be sure to use the MB Spring Compressor. Not the wimpy one`s that squeeze from the sides. There is a ton of write up`s on rebuilding the front end of these cars.

It left NYC in the early 90's to my vacation home in Montenegro.. It hasn't seen snow with its headlights since Awesome! That is the info i was looking for! Lemforder parts it is! Put a few things from mercedes source prior to coming here and reading all this great info. Got a valve adjustment kit, lower ball joints, fuel filters, fuel hoses, some other lil things but i figured they werent oem or oem type, seems that mercedes source sells alot of meyle stuff.. His website is very informative, as are his write ups and youtube videos, but i def would like to stick to oem type parts, as much as possible.. |

That is a great-looking 240D, and the four-speed makes it really cool. It's so difficult to find a clean 240D, good luck with the car.

Wow! Welcome. I started with a 82 240d 4spd. Yours is in much better shape. Mine had 250k and ended with 400k over ten years. You may be driving this car longer than you anticipated.
Europe? Makes sense. There was something off about your iron work and window hardware on the house.
