Good or bad? I've really not seen much on the negative side. Possibly some evidence of shortened life of the internals. It would personally make me nervous to be trapping heat in the turbo, and it would be even more important to idle the engine for a bit after a hard run, but turbos are pretty crazy in their durability considering what they have to deal with.

Obviously they will definitely lower the temps in the engine bay. Again I would be extra surprised if that did anything positive for a stock 617 or 616.

They do on some semi truck turbo's. However, wrapping an exhaust will allow the heat to eventually cook out the carbon of the header or turbo housing causing it to deteriorate, or crumble. I used to wrap my RV headers but no more because they cook the headers and they disintegrate.

...........beside which, wrapping can become oil soaked and that's one difficult fire to extinguish. Nearly lost a 928 that way !

I've always been under the impression that they often wrap turbos to avoid melting holes in fiberglass bodies.

I wrap my 617 and m104,I used a sheet of fiberglass for turbo.I did this for under hood heat. It works well,no performance gain.I di it to save parts, that don't like heat.
