crack in widsheild of 300SD, help please

I have a crack in the windsheild of my 83 300SD, the glass is far from good condition, there are hundreds of hairline scrathches, but not major chips like this one. it appears as if the windsheild got hit, and then the crack started to spread as there are three small crack lines going out from the center. I fear if i dont do something soon it will spread even furthur, and i heard that glass cracks are like rust in that the bigger they get the quicker they spread. is there a DIY fix for this? i dont care if the crack is there, it's not that noticable, i just dont want it to spread! thanks
Ryan

usually, windshield cracks mean you have to replace the windshield. check your policy, you should be able to have it repaired for free if it's repairable. you should be able to have the windshield replaced with OEM glass, just paying the deductible.

A little food for thought....

Usually it costs around $40 to have a 'star' filled in on a windshield. Through some research I've found that aftermarket glass companies will install a new windshield which covers the part and install....not a bad price, though it is not a Securit windshield which originally comes on the car, but it sure beats paying through the nose for a MB glass....

I'd try having the crack repaired - there are some really good systems to repair cracks and chips.

Using your insurance can result in increased premiums and perhaps your insurance company not renewing your policy, especially if you've already made a claim(s) or have a claim after replacing the windshield. I would save my insurance for a major/expensive event.

Good Luck!

at least in our state (NJ) glass coverage / claims do not have any impact on your premiums. i know cuz i've done it...
