FYI: Over the weekend I installed Lemforder engine mounts in my 91 300-D (W124) and both boxes are marked "Made in GERMANY".

They replaced "ANCHOR" brand motor mounts (installed in 2012) that only lasted 55,000 miles.

Out of interest, just did a quick check on three brands of engine mounts.

Admittedly this is only one supplier but they are normally quite competitive.

For S124 300TD

Engine Mounting for your MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Estate (S124) E 300 T D (136Hp)

I note Lemforder is showing out of stock, another supplier reported some difficultly getting supplies of Lemforder which pushed him to recommend febi instead.

I feel compelled to tie these two threads together. Anyone see the connection between customers wanting low cost parts and their reaction to the cost of high quality parts? Also see where they are made, pricing.

While elevated cost does not always = higher quality, there is a reason why it is difficult to buy quality parts anymore. Try and buy a brake rotor that does not rust away in 2 years of salt belt use.

350SDL motor (engine) mounts, why so expensive?
350SDL motor (engine) mounts, why so expensive?
I am searching for motor mounts for my 91 350SDL, and the only ones available from our sponsor are Genuine, and over $70 each! I tried my other source (they have "Rock" bottom prices), and no mounts are even available. Anyone have a line on less expensive mounts for my SDL?

Lemforder Engine mounts made in China
They were in clearance for $35 each. I've use this site (not Pelican Parts) quite often in the past year or so because the prices are far cheaper than anyone else a

I simply bought the Lemforder at $35 cause it was in clearance for $35. No sense in me spending more than that if I didn't need to. I don't see anything wrong with that or expecting Lemforder quality from Lemforder. I was prepared to spend at least $60 per side, I spent more than that for my 190D's mounts which are the same part number. Seems like Lemforder doesn't make these anymore, they are out of stock on Pelican as well although their clearance price was $10 more than my other website. I simply want good quality at the best prices, I have never bought any brands deemed on here to be low quality besides an URO antenna mast which has good ratings. I do tons of research on parts when I buy them and that's saved me $100s of dollars versus blindly ordering and I still get the same high quality parts. For this specific part I would have only bought Lemforder, Corteco, Boge, or OEM and that's what I have recommended to people in the past. I found a site that offers much more competitive pricing, faster shipping, and less ordering issues on their end versus Pelican so that's what I use.

I'm not against value shopping and mostly connected the two threads because the are on opposite sides of the parts issue and days apart.

On one side a person says " high quality parts are $, I'd like them to be less $ . " the other says " these parts are low cost but are made in China " Kind of like the Good , Fast or Cheap. Pick 2.

For a parts company to survive, they must walk the line between keeping market share when it comes to price and quality. For the most part, cars get fixed, run a few more years then traded in so the low cost / low quality part does it's job. Those on this list that run cars many miles are not the typical car owner.

You're totally right. The low quality parts can do the job, my Sportline had all of the suspension except the shocks and subframe mounts redone a year or two before I bought it, it drove alright at first but got progressively worse until it was unsafe and I decided to replace everything but the springs. Every single bit on that car was URO, no wonder it failed so quickly but it did 10K miles for the previous owner and that's all he needed. It doesn't help that most shops will use that crap and charge for the good stuff and won't let you bring in your own parts. It also doesn't help that it is infinitely easier to find parts made by URO and the like on parts sites, Amazon, and eBay. I'm glad to see some parts websites stand behind their products with a lifetime replacement warranty, their prices tend to be a bit higher but they don't sell many parts brands I would call questionable.

The typical owner, especially in states like GA where there aren't safety inspections, doesn't care about part quality as long as it gets them a bit further down the road. My first purchase (a stupid one at that) was a 190D with 310K miles with all original suspension. I later bought a 190E parts car that had had 209K miles and incredibly old, maybe original spark plugs. For that one, the person was selling it because it didn't run, a secondary reason was that the rear window was knocked out by a tree limb. I'm sure she would have kept driving that had it kept running (it took us all of about 15 minutes and $0 to get it running). These people and the guy I got my Sportline from certainly don't help with the propagation of cheap parts. For some cars like my brother's W116 you can only get Meyle or OEM for certain suspension bits.

We had a poster years back that had worked for URO at one time he claimed. He indicated the parts where made to sell rather than meet service requirements intentionally.

Years back I ordered some primer pumps out of China. The boxes appeared genuine bosh and the boxes said made in Germany. I often wondered if the same ones where sold in Germany as well?

Both Bosch primer pumps and glowplugs have been known to be counterfeited in China. I had one of the primer pumps. It was installed in August and failed on the coldest morning of the winter (massive air leak). I had to change it at -29 C in the driveway. That was the last auto part I purchased on eBay.

There is a reason that the glowplug boxes now have holograms with security code numbers you can cross-reference on the Bosch website. I don't know if the primer pump boxes also have the security feature now.

Both primer pumps on my running OM61x cars are leaking so I went ahead and ordered the steel housing Monark primer pumps and lift pump rebuild kits. I got both from ebay, I actually buy a lot from ebay but you certainly have to be careful. Paypal is great for buyers usually though I am not sure I would recommend selling on ebay. I've received a few counterfeit items and had false Paypal claims against me that left me without my money or my items.
