350SDL motor (engine) mounts, why so expensive?

I am searching for motor mounts for my 91 350SDL, and the only ones available from our sponsor are Genuine, and over $70 each! I tried my other source (they have "Rock" bottom prices), and no mounts are even available. Anyone have a line on less expensive mounts for my SDL?

Nope, searched pelican & auto haus az + rock auto.. Nothing other than genuine mounts. Those are funky looking mounts.. I've never seen that design before in my limited experience of replacing motor mounts. I've only done them on two cars, both my W210 diesels..

Roller:

Are the mounts the familiar rubber pyramid style, or the hydraulic type as used in some 124s & later chassis?

If they are the old rubber pyramid style, ones from 86-87 300SDLs should be the same.

They look similar to the older style, but have a specific left and right (different part numbers).
I just looked at the '87 SDL part number, and it is a 123 part.

AFAIK the 3.0 and 3.5 cars use the same mounts. I put what I assume are 3.0 mounts in my 3.5 in 2013.

350sdl mounts are different than 300sdl mounts

350sdl mounts have frame mount tabs on the corners.
300sdl mounts have frame mount tabs on the side.

Both have the "pyramid" shape. Look similar.

Attached photo with the Lemforder box in view is the 300sdl mount. The mount viewed on the left (same photo) was an "inexpensive" brand (not even uro) after 25,000 or so miles. New Lemforder is to its right. Next photo is the 350sdl.

I've gone "inexpensive" in the past several times only to have them transfer engine vibration & crush up quickly. False economy. I recommend just going for the genuine version and be done with it.

My "genuine" Lemforders have the phoenix emblem, with the mb star ground off, and made in Turkey. I think I paid double the inexpensive brand offerings and glad I did. They do a much better job at sorting out the motor vibration too. Much better rubber formula.

That's cheap! As contrasted with E320 CDI engine mounts. Over $200.00 / pair - IIRC.

Again, the catalog shows a 123 part number for the '87, but a 126 part number for the'91,and two different part numbers for the right and left. I am not saying the 123 part number won't bolt in and work, I am just not sure if it is the best thing to do knowing how the designers of these cars are/were.

I feel compelled to tie these two threads together. Anyone see the connection between customers wanting low cost parts and their reaction to the cost of high quality parts? Also see where they are made, pricing.

While elevated cost does not always = higher quality, there is a reason why it is difficult to buy quality parts anymore. Try and buy a brake rotor that does not rust away in 2 years of salt belt use.

Lemforder Engine mounts made in China
They were in clearance for $35 each. I've use this site (not Pelican Parts) quite often in the past year or so because the prices are far cheaper than anyone else a

Seems like your answer could be as simple as looking your vehicle. How do the bolt tabs line up. 45* to the front of the car, or 90* to the front of the car.

Since we both have 91s, I'd presume his would be the same as the picture I posted above, on the corners.

If you want some real sticker shock, price the little engine mount dampers and their rubber mounts.

If I use the 123 mounts, they would have a different orientation (45* angle) than the 126 mounts, and I am not sure if that would cause a problem. Even though I have a quality set of 123 mounts, I will probably just go with the ebay mounts.......Rich
