Simple question concerning idle control knob / cable
My idle control cable broke, and I'm in the process of replacing it. Does the black part of the idle control knob (on the dash) just pull straight off? Or is it held on by the silver trim ring? I've rotated the trim ring a bit, enough so that things are loose, but I'm not sure whether I have to rotate it CCW more so that the trim and knob come off together. This is on my '79 240D.
Thanks for your advice. Kurt

Hi Kurt,
Yep - the black plastic knob will pull off with a good tug. The chrome ring stays, and when removed/screwed off will allow you to separate the rest of the assembly from the dash panel.

Thanks, Greg. Mine must really be age-welded on to the shaft.

IIRC you rock the knob up and down (on the long axis) while pulling, to get it to release from the shaft.
