Opening my own shop

Hello guys, just a heads up for anyone in the Wichita, Kansas area.
Opening my own shop in Halstead, KS 15 yrs exp as a mechanic.
Ill be opening Feb. 1st. Ill do all makes/models, but specialize in euro work.
I have full OEM MB Star Diagnostics "Xentry". Also Jaguar, Land Rover IDS/SDD Working on getting BMW ICOM A3. Also have an Autel MS906 for all other makes.
I have been TylerH860's personal mechanic for many years. I have many others in the area that I also did euro work for a while as a tech at a local shop, but the old owner frowned heavily on euro work. I love it, so time to get out on my own.
PM me if any questions.
Thanks
David

Very nice to hear of your new shop opening!

It is a treasure to have a knowledgeable MB technician to rely upon working on your MB.

I wish your every success going forward !

Congratulations. The work is rewarding. My dad had a repair shop for more than thirty years and always enjoyed his work. I worked for him for about six years when I was in high school and college; I sometimes feel I should have stayed with him. I liked the work too and the interaction with customers.

It may be easier than in the past to start this business. The dealers charge so much (and often know so little) that Mercedes owners and owners of other euro cars are always on the look out for good shops that charge reasonable prices. They will find you. You should do well without much luck, but good luck anyway.

Best of luck! Owning a business can be very rewarding and I don't just mean financially. My buddy who owns a shop here in town (also named Dave!) has done really well. Sadly, they're building a shopping center right on top of his shop building so he has to move. But the good news is that they worked with him to build a new shop right next door but off the shopping center footprint. They're moving next weekend - looking forward to that. I haven't been in the new shop yet but it looks like a palace.

All this to say - best of luck and I hope you do as well as my buddy.

Dan

I look forward to the money, but mostly like others said, the comradery. It was amazing when I was a tech at the previous shop, when I had Tylers S600 Bi-turbo in, or Duke Evans Porsche 944, or any other euro car. It was like a naked woman. Customers would start to talk about there Ford Taurus' and what not, then stop mid-sentence and immediately gravitate to the car I was working onI. "Whh.. wh.. what is that?" Trembling. It really pissed off the old guy who owned the shop. I enjoy sharing stories, knowledge and what not, about euro cars. They are indeed special, standing out in a world of econo box cars, and run of the mill trucks.

Word of mouth will be the largest asset you have, in terms of marketing. Treat the customers right, and everything else should fall into place.

Oh please no

The used car market has finally sorted itself out after the last time they pulled this stunt in 2009. Many perfectly good cars destroyed and the used car market was upset for years after.

It is my understanding that each state develops the "cash for clunkers" plan. The POTUS has nothing to do with it.
