OM602 IP timing at install

I'm swapping an IP into my OM602 2.5 NA from a parts car. How do I set time on the receiving engine? If I center the old IP in the timing window, the cam is near but not at the TDC mark. Is this chain stretch?

The 60x are timed off the crankshaft balancer and the IP is set using a locking tool.

Look up the timing for your engine and set the crankshaft to that position. Lock the IP using the locking tool, then install in the engine. Base timing should be set, you can tweak it from there if needed.

What Diseasel said. You need the locking tool for this job. If current timing is good, set the crank to about 10* ATDC #1 and turn slowly as you look for the RIV timing tang to center in the IP timing port. If you don't see the tang by 20* ATDC, you're probably out of phase so give the engine a turn to 10* ATDC and try again. Insert the locking tool when the tang is centered. Pull the IP and transfer the locking tool to the IP to be installed. Swap IPs without turning the engine.

FWIW, RIV has nothing to do with start of delivery. It's just the reference point MB and Bosch chose to time IPs.
