Mangled PS pump threads?
While replacing the steering gear on an '84 300D, I've encountered a problem. I harvested a mostly NOT leaking gear from my parts car with hoses attached. I am not able to get the HP hose to thread into the pump. I've attached an image of that orifice. It looks to me like there is a bit of helicoil in there that has exposed a cutting edge. But I look at the HP hole on the host car, and it appears to have the almost same configuration.
Questions: 1) have I trashed the pump or is there some repair (necessary) to the hole. 2) I didn't post a picture, but the hose side of the connection is getting a little messy at this point. I cleaned it up with a thread chaser and each time I try to reconnect, I carve a new furrow. Would buying a new hose (w/ fitting) fix the problem or would I just trash the new fitting. I also have the HP hose from the cadaver car which I would try first. Advice appreciated. jim |

Cant tell from photos, but it seems that someone maybe installed the wrong size helicoil. What I would do is try to verify the size, maybe try to run a bolt of the correct size and see if it fits.

Are they the same brand pump?
I think there are two kinds and the hose may be different Doubt that's the answer though
