I just ought a 82 240d automatic

The car has 220k. Same owner for 30 years. At 177k 10 years ago engine overheated and he head rebuilt. At that time he put in new radiator. Front seats recovered and springs repaired. Body tan perfect garaged all the 30 years. I'm buying only having seen pictures,oil pan ,trans pan ,rear and front crank seals done. Does not leak. New alternator no radio

I have owned many different Mercedes diesels and usually wouldn't consider a automatic 240 because of low power,but I'm taking a chance because of its condition.its not my daily driver. Price was 2500 and I am excited.

Any thoughts

I've owned several 300d turbo,sdl ,several 79 and 80 sd- my favorites- wish I hadn't sold them and a 240d 4 speed-wish I had not sold that. Oh well. I currently have a 91 420 sel with 117k.,a 79 928 5 speed and a 914,so I can go fast if I want

Sounds like a steal to me, if the condition is as good as described!

For comparison: I bought Betsie two years ago for 1400 dollars. Betsie is a 10-footer (as in, looks OK from 10 feet away, but don't come closer) and she has many, many issues and seems to break down on a monthly basis. Interior looks like what you would expect from a car that has been a daily driver it's whole life; less than pristine...

So, if yours is a good as you describe, you did damn good I'd say. Show some pics. Let's see that beauty.

[SIGPIC] Diesel loving autocrossing grandpa Architect. 08 Dodge 3/4 ton with Cummins & six speed; I have had about 35 benzes. I have a 39 Studebaker Coupe Express pickup in which I have had installed a 617 turbo and a five speed manual. It still needs upholstery redone...I also have a 427 Cobra replica with an aluminum chassis.

Sounds like a good deal. Most likely rust free from being in CA its whole life.

Find a 4 or 5 speed gear box and you'll actually be able to drive it in traffic without fear...the automatic is just too much power drain for the OM616.

The torque converter really does drag down the power once you start going in that thing. I'd put a 5-speed in it, that'd be sweet. Excited to see pictures.
