Block Heater Cord
 

On my 1983 300d, I noticed with my hood open, there is an electrical cord infront of my AC condenser. I can't see where it goes to. Does this mean my engine has a block heater??? Or did Mercedes install these electrical cords as standard equipment but the block heater was an option if you wanted to install it later???

It most likely has one, but obviously you should look where the cord goes before you plug it in. Should be under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side.

You've got it backwards, normally the block heater was installed but the cord was not installed. There was a coupon for a free cord included with the car's documents that the original owner received.

They do plug into the block also ,meaning the plug in side to a power source is the male end ,the other end has a female small end that then plugs into the block heater element ,if the cord is not plugged into the Block it might have fell out .Mid to back side of block under the back of the turbo along the row of freeze plugs.Youll have to crawl under the car and look up with a flash light .You also can take the air cleaner off and search that way.I was digging around on a yard car for one last week ,very good to have if you can get it to work.
