It was the fan clutch. I took a trip out to the boneyard and found some fans. I am now installing an electric fan as well for good measure. I figure a used O.E. part is at least as good as a Uro brand. The new fan clutch from Behr or M.B. is crazy expensive, over 250$.

Suggestion on the used fan. Take it apart and clean/lube the bearings. The only trick to disassembly is that the bolt that holds the blade has left hand threads.

Quick and easy way to confirm engine temperature - get one of those $30 Harbor Freight IR thermometer guns. Point it at the center of the head where the temperature sensor is located.
