1996 e300d p0200 problems

Hey Guys,

I keep getting a p0200 code and not sure what is causing it. The code says injector circuit open. The car runs and drives fine without problems but my inspection is coming up and I need to get it figured out to pass.

I checked the flaps in the manifold and they are working correctly. I also cleared the code but it comes back very quickly. I do not have to rev the engine for the code to come back. I know that this code can mean a number of things. I guess my question is what are all the possibilities? I would start checking them one after another if I knew what all the possible problems could be .

I generated that code this week end when I loosened the hard line on top of one of my injectors. In fact I generated it twice by opening it twice. The first time it peed on my shirt, so I closed it quickly and repositioned. I was running it with the intake manifold off so I expected a 400 code, but was surprised it knew I opened the hard line. You might want to remove the black cover to see if you have a leaking line.

I searched the WWW for "benz e300 odbii p0200" and came up with a lot of reading material that should provide you with more ideas and things to check out. Here are a couple links, but there's a lot more where this came from:

P0200 in 96 e300

Check engine light on, code P0200 on 97 E 300 diesel - Mercedes-Benz Forum

When you get it figured out let us know what the problem was.

I looked through this stuff and it looks like some of it could be related to the SOV on the injection pump. I just recently changed the O ring on it because it was leaking. The connector is definitely on there and the cables are ok also.

Not sure if it needs some reset, I read that somewhere also. The car runs and drives without issues and has no idle problems or shutting off problems.

I will look at it again tomorrow.

One more thing to mention is that I am getting terrible fuel mileage right now. I am to go and refuel and I only got about 390 miles on the tank. There are no leaks tho. I have been checking and looking under the car each time I park it.

Not sure what else to look at.

I get this code from time to time. The diesel engine codes are different than the gasser codes, I don't think it's fuel related - if you search this forum you'll probably come across my posts about this code, the P0120, and P0400 as well. In the diesel, these three codes point to something in the intake manifold, either the manifold flaps, the pressure sensor mounted on the bulkhead in front of the driver, or the EGR. You could have a vacuum leak in one of the hoses or vacuum switches, or in the vacuum actuator of the EGR or flaps. In any case, when the code is thrown, the ECU goes into a limp mode and mileage drops - mine usually drops to 25-26 mpg from a steady 27-28 in the city.

Look for vacuum leaks - my system shows about 20 inches of Hg of vacuum when it's running well. If you want more information, you can take it into a garage with the Mercedes specific machine and they will see more codes.

After 5 years of ownership my '97 has been very good overall with the exception of the complicated intake/vacuum system - this by far has given me more trouble than anything else.
