Angry need help

I own a 85sd. Two weeks ago we had a very bad rain storm. My battery light would go off when the car was tuned off , then come on a hour later. this went on for a few days. Then the alternator started make a sound like it was on its way out. This stopped. Then a week later I was driving and smoke started coming into the car. I pulled over and found I had a fire under and behind the fuse box under the master cylinder. This was leaves, I was able to quickly put it out. The car was towed to my home . I cleaned out all of the leaves and junk in that space. Only two wires look damaged going to one end of the pre-resistor . But the car starts with no lights coming on after its running just like it should. but there is smoke ,some come from a part that is at a 90 and further aft of the pre-resistor . It look about 2 inches long by 1/2 with round holes for cooling and coils in side what is this and a part number please. I have a new alt. that I will be putting in

Please post a picture or as many as needed, it will help in identifying the part and possibly the cause.

To respond to your thread title ' "Yes. Yes you do."

But seriously, yep, we need pics. It's not you - it's hard to describe this stuff in words.

I don't know what a pre resistor is, but the piece you describe sounds like the blower fan resistor assembly. Real stroke of genius putting it down there where all the dead leaves collect.
