speakers...'85 300sd

What size speakers fit in the 300sd? (stock) 4"X6"? I was thinking of replacing with 6"X9" in rear, if they will fit.

on the 123's they are only 5 1/4 round jobs. And those barely fit. Don't know about yours. Remover the grills and measure them.
You can add a subwoofer under seat (small ones are out there) to pick up bass. Some people have removed the med kit and used that hole for a subwoofer.

Speaker system in these old mercs are very poor. Any modern speaker is an improvement. Look at infinity on ZEB audio website.

vw:

The speakers are an odd-ball sized 4x6" oval....really something like 3.75x5.5" or something like that.

I replaced mine very recently with Boston Acoustic 746 plate speakers. They are a separate 4" round with a separate tweeter plate.

The fronts needed to be snipped on the corners to fit but finally got there ok.....grills fit back on fine.

The rears just drop right in with no mods BUT the grills won't snap back down.....the speakers must sit up about 1/8" higher than the OEMs.

Otherwise, the BA sound great!

I have an 83 300sd and I've put a subwoofer in it and replaced the rear speakers. I was able to replace the rears with 4x6s rather easily. the system sounds great.
