Freightliner is owned by DaimlerChrysler. they purchased it quite some time ago. I think it was in the late 80's.
So the "Mercedes" van will just be a rebadged car. Sort of like the Crossfire.

sounds like this van is going to be taking over the van market I just saw one in CA, didn't know they were legal here though. They have all bases covered if your family type people go to dodge, if your into trucks go to freightliner, if you want A camper theres A bunch of companys converting them, dont know the price though. Maybe this will be the new VW westfaila, cause I don't think VW makes the euro van any more or do they? They need to make one in the middle of the road for occasional use camping, or an all around one. BTW does this van carry more PAYLOAD than A full sized 2500, or 3500 truck and does it get better MPG? If it does that is amazing

I cought a FedEx van in a parking lot. I can see why they are taking over the dodge van line. It has a very soothing patter, unlike my TD's Klatter. The driver was a real @sshole , he openly ignored me at first, later he said he liked the LPG powered UPS style van better!

I am kicking myself for not having the camera at the time, not only for getting the overlabeled FedEx van, but to get the p*ssed-off expression of the driver!

Hello to the Brotherhood!

Don't want to disappoint you all but the MB "Sprinter" is in fact a Volkswagen
LT. It is sold some years now in Europ. Instead of developping a complete new van, MB took the LT from VW and put in some of there own engines.
In fact in Europ the Sprinter is far more popular than the LT's.
By th same cooperation, I have seen already 2.6 V6 - VW engines in the MB's
"Vito"! It's the only engine of VW with a chain (as far as I know) instead of a belt and they all brake/broke that VW - chain!
Have a nice day,

Danny

Well, who knows ! Maybe next year ?
Opel, a General Motors product made in Germany is selling different models of vans made by Renault (France).
Last week I received a new key and steering lock.
It was made to match with the original keys and locks of my W124.193
and came from a plant ELC Valenciennes - DaimlerChrysler France !?!
German quality made in France...

There's more to it than just MBZ engines:

Anybody else know anything about the Sprinter/VW connection?

The Volkswagen LT bears an uncanny resemblance to the Sprinter.

The VW LT and the Sprinter are definitely NOT the same vehicle. There is a great deal of similarity between the older LT's and the MB100 van but I don't think MB is making that van anymore. It would not surprise me is the LT and 100 are the same chassis.

The Sprinter is an evolution of he 207-409d, 208-408d and 210-410d vans which were built on the same chassis from 1977-1995. In 1996 these vans evolved into the Sprinter. While the US model numbers are very different, the European models use the old method of the last two digits indicating horsepower in 10's and the first digit the load capacity in tons. (207= two tons, seventy horsepower). So the current Euro 416 model is a 4 ton vehicle with 160 horsepower.

The Sprinter and the LT are not the same. We used to have them at work and they are completely different. The MB100 was the worst vehicle DB ever built. Motor in between the front seats and only a plactic cover over it. Over 40 mph you couldn't hear yourself think.

I take back my earlier post. Sorry. I just checked my Euro van parts catalog. While he early LT's and MB's are not the same, later LT's and Sprinters share the same chassis and mechanical components. The catalog did not indicate in which year they became clones of each other.

Well I saw one at a stop light while I was standing on the corner... I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the engine was. You can tell it's dieel for sure, but it's nice and quiet. I was even more surprise how he took off. It truly is a SPRINTER! That turbo blow off was wonderful too! I WANT ONE!!
