Engine shocks for my swapped 617 in 240D
I put a 617 in my 240, I don't have engine shocks. I don't think I have the proper mounts or brackets to fit the shocks. I could get pics if you think I'm incorrect.
I am interested in further stabilizing my engine somehow, shocks sound awesome. How should I go about this? Sent from my LGLS996 using Tapatalk |

If I had to add a bunch of stuff to install shocks I wouldn't do it. I doubt you'd see much difference. What is it doing that you think you need them? I'd go stiffer engine and trans mounts first.

Engine shocks do virtually nothing to "stabilize" the engine. Their sole purpose is to damp vibration at shutdown a bit. Back when I thought they were important I fabricated brackets for my engine swap into a 380SL....significant work for not a lot of return.

You could try mounting a single shock from the top of the engine to the fender well or something like that to dampen motion.

My 240D had a shock mount on the driver side but not on the passenger side. I installed just the one side as I didn't want to fabricate something for the right side. You'll be out about $200 for one of these things by the time you get the dumb expensive rubber mount that is on the top side of the thing.

Agreed about their effectiveness. However, there is a combination of engine mount arms that will work. I don't exactly know which ones. I remember looking at several different arms that put the shock mount in the correct spot. One of the shock mounts on the front of the crossmember needs to be cut off or trimmed so it does not rub on a turbo oil pan. It is not a problem with the N/A engine oil pan. Either way, it is probably not worth the effort......Rich

Just changed my engine shocks, rubber mounts, and rubber bushings.
Was disappointed when the result was the same as when I had the originals on there

The engine shocks are fairly useless and a prime example of that "over engineering" that went into these vehicles. You don't need them, they won't stabilize much of anything.
I don't think the euro version even had them? I still vividly remember that authoritative "shake" that my dad's W123 (and later his diesel W124) would do upon shutdown. And this was when those cars were new!
