Any good truck stops on the Jersey Turnpike?
I keep hearing about how the best diesel stuff is sold at truck stops but I've never been to one. I'm actually looking them up but the closest one to me is over an hour away, deep in the boonies of Connecticut. I'm going down to Philly this weekend and would like to know if any of those stops off the NJ Turnpike have anything good. Thanks for the info.
Alex

NONE of the rest stops
I am on the Turnpike frequently. None of the rest stops have anything of note, except Nathan's Hot Dogs (worth the stop).
My experience is PETRO and T/A are usually very well outfitted, although I am always disappointed in their selection of diesel rated oils and additives. You'll have to get off the turnpike to hit these stops. They do have a ton of obscene mud flaps and "I'm with stupid ->" tee shirts if you're interested. JCD |

Hmmm..... as much as I want a good "I'm with stupid...." shirt, I think I'll save myself the toll and not get off the turnpike when I don't have to.
Are there any good stops further south on the way to Anapolis, Maryland? I think I am headed there for the Naval Academy graduation as well. Thanks Alex

The best is
There is an exit that has about 3 truck stops, T/A, Petro, and another. It is just over the Maryland/Delaware border, I believe exit 109. You can hit both.
FYI, the next rest stop in MD has a pretty good "Maryland Shop". If you like hot sauces, spices, seasonings, it is a pretty good place. That rest area also has a Starbucks, the only good coffee between NJ and Baltimore. JCD |

If you are in MD, let me know, we will have to get some steamed crabs!

JCD,
Thanks for the info regarding the truck stops. I'll write that exit down and take a look on my way down there. CJ, Thanks so much for the offer. Sounds like it would be an awesome time but I'm only going to be down there for the graduation friday and then I'm coming straight home. I wish I had time for a little vacation. Alex

MD DE Truck stop
jcd;
I think I was there. The lot is dirt and they have a small building with showers in it? Of course that describes alot of truck stops. I remember my car having a little more spunk because it hadn't had 'fresh' diesel in a while when I stopped there on my way to DC.

The one's that I am thinking of are pretty nice
As truck stops go of course.
However, I always notice a little more spunk when I get diesel at a high volume truckstop, versus one of lower volume. As many times as I have made the drive from Northern NJ to Baltimore, I should put out a travel guide. |

"JCD's NE Corridor Highway Travel Guide for Diesel Lovers" Good Eats - here Good Diesel - here Clean Showers - here Most Lawless Stretch of Highway - here (my vote goes for I95 around PA-DE. Some of the craziest driving i have ever witnessed was on that stretch of road :p Could be great. You could script a Palm / GPS version ! Cool.

I'll second JPL's observations.. Make sure you have your wits with you when you run the section of road between Baltimore and Wilmington. Ive seen moves there that defy description.
New Jersey has far lower prices for Diesel that Maryland or Delaware - even the prices on the NJTP stops are lower than either state. |

Tim, you are exactly right
Just about the lowest diesel prices I have seen are on the Turnpike's rest stops, both as compared to other states, as well as any other Jersey truckstops/stations.
I think the rest stop's use it as a loss leader to get you to pay ?$2.75 for a large Coke. I hate this state JCD |
