Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 86 SDL and a standard 300SD front door and front quarter panel? Thank you!

I don't know for sure. Depending on the year of SD you might need to transfer switches and things. Consider body panels from an 86-87 420- or 560SEL which are a direct fit and more likely color match; trim, wiring, switches and all.

If you are talking about the fender ("front quarter panel"), then the only possible difference would be the lower cladding or other optional trim. As far as I know, all W126 models from '81-'91 either gas or Diesel, long or standard, are the same from the "B" pillar forward (as far as sheet metal is concerned).

The doors are the same and will bolt up. I noticed a difference in the rubber acordian that houses the wiring between the 84 & 85SD. I don't know that there are differences between say 85SD & 86SDL.

85SD 240K & stopped counting painted, putting bac together. 84SD 180,000. sold to a neighbor and member here but I forget his handle. The 84 is much improved from when I had it. 85TD beginning to repair to DD status. Lots of stuff to do.

Out of curiosity, did the door handles change when the Gen II came out in '86? I don't recall if the 126 did, but I know the 107 did. If they didn't, safely disregard my question!
