Can you swap driver and passenger seats?

In my 1987 300D the driver seat sags toward the door and squeaks.

However, the passenger seat is practically pristine.

Can I just swap them?

I have two sets of 124 seats...

I don't know if they swap like the 123&126 seats do...

You might run into a problem with the power seat controls.

The 87 came with memory seat as standard for the driver IIRC. (Mine has it but I don't know if that was an option or not for the memory.)

Anyway if you have the memory seat on the left and standard seat on the right, the motors on the left seat have position feedback sensors that go to the control box. The right seat motors do not have these sensors.

Also the control setup is different left to right.

The left seat control module in the door switches low current dc to ground for each motion. The memory control box takes these signals and operates logic and relays to move the seat motors.

The right seat control module in the door takes direct battery power and switches the motors directly.

If however your drivers seat is non memory then it too is straight powered from the door switch. In that case the controls should be able to be swapped over easily.

Most likely I want to say no. 300E/TD/D received memory seats. It was an extra cost on the bottom dollar 260E.

I think he's asking if the springbox's (actual cushions that unbolt from the seat frame)
and there's no reason not to think that they won't
try it and report back (swapped them on my 126, took an afternoon)

You can swap the seat cushion. Or get a seat cushion of a passenger seat from JY and install it into the driver's seat.

My driver seat doesn't have memory but it does have the spot for it. I wondered what that space was for.

Well, that's an option but I also have something wrong with one of the controls. I don't know if it's in the control box or the seat motor.

I can't move my seat back forward. I can only tilt the whole seat to change position.

So, ideally I need to swap the whole seat unless it's just way easier to take off the springboxes.

I'd start with replacing the door switch. Anyone ever try to clean them?

I've cleaned many W124 seat switch contacts with success. Use a petroleum based contact cleaner.
