Disappointed in performance by Pelican and USPS

Well, I ordered a simple ten or eleven rubber connectors from Pelican last Wednesday for the SD vac lines; thought sure I would have them for the weekend. What is so hard about this? I got one letter pak on Saturday with only four connectors and am still waiting for the others which still have not come by Wednesday.

So an entire week without the SD. Not a happy camper. And they charged me almost $10 to drop them in a cardboard envelope and mail. I think I got bit on shipping too.

Pelican, you need to do better than this.

Look on the bright side, what they lack in selection, competitive pricing and shipping speed, they more than make up for in auto censorship so we can't discuss any of their competitors like ******** ********az or *******.

I quite often shop with their competitors. Oops, now I'll probably get and infraction and/or banned.

I've always had great luck with Pelican so all I can say is that I'm sorry you're having this issue. I hope Dimitry or one of the guys will see this and track it down for you.

I also have been happy with service from Pelican. Oftentimes my parts have to come from Germany and it takes awhile. I am just glad that I can order by part number and get genuine parts for a 30+ year old car.

Since you mentioned USPS. I ordered some Shoes on eBay and of course the package was not going to fit through the door slot.

USPS either left them on the Porch or delivered them to the wrong address and marked them as delivered.

Neither the Seller, eBay or USPS would refund me because it was marked as being delivered.

So at least you got something.

I can't remember the company in the pre-internet days but you would order stuff from them to get the cheap shipping for the whole order and they would say they backordered one item forcing you to loose the cheap shipping and either minus enough parts to pay for the higher shipping or refuse to ship the backordered item till you payed the extra shipping.

I've had acceptable service but quality has declined with the new ownership and I am less loyal. There is an ebay seller that ships out of Nashville and is frequently makes sense to buy from them even considering the 10% TN sales tax. It's just quicker and less hassle.

Phil gave the best service ever and Roy isn't around much now. There have been several "Mercedes parts people" that acted like lost puppies.

This has always irked me, if you are confident in their service/product there should be no need to censor anything.....

Consider it a lesson learned: Never use the USPS for something time-sensitive. Getting hit for $10 for freight for 2 parcels clear across the country isn't out of line either. Look up shipping costs, it isn't cheap and the USPS charges by "zone". The farther away it goes, the more expensive it gets. About the cheapest you can get away with on Priority anymore is just shy of $6 for a single tiny package.

Just consider yourself lucky it didn't get lost. Ever try to claim insurance on a lost USPS parcel? We still have a running joke at work where an international parcel got lost in 1997 and we still get yearly letters from the USPS asking if the issue has been resolved. For those keeping record, that's 20 years of a package being lost. Who knows, maybe it'll be delivered to the great-great-grandkids of the purchaser in 2167.

Post Pelican Parts

I too have had some issues ~

My '84 300TD needed front calipers and it took them OVER A MONTH to supply the left one, in the end I received a crappy CHINESE MADE repop caliper and no discount etc.

The deal is very simple : the new owners don't care and will hire anyone off the street .

I always try to do will call on my orders and I get to talk to the sales people, not a one of them knows bupkis about cars much less auto parts .

They're nice and pleasant but 100 % CLUELESS apart from using the computer catalog .

Sad but that's how it is : DOLLARS COUNT, not Customers .

PP has never really got into the game with shipping. Amazon among others does it right. I do order from PP but its more in support of forum than it is getting the killer deal.

Had a similar problem recently. Placed an order on Thursday or Friday week before last. Paid extra for 3 day shipping, all items shown as in stock at their warehouse. Within 20 minutes of placing the order I called to add an item to it so they could combine the shipping. That last item showed up at my door very quickly. All items were to be delivered by last Wednesday. Didn't show. Thursday either. Or Friday, or Saturday. On Monday I called to find out what was wrong and learned the bulk of the order hadn't even shipped yet.

Sometimes these things fall through the cracks, but it was pretty frustrating and cost me an additional week of not having that vehicle operational. Not great considering I use that car alone for work related driving and it did end up costing me money for the week to have her down.

If there is a little logo on your part that says "Ships Today", and I order before lunch central time, it should ship today, not 26 hours later! This happened to me Monday. I'm waiting on an oil filter to block gasket so I can change before the whole engine/tranny goes back in this weekend. I also ordered one from Amazon as some kind of insurance I'll get one of them. This after waiting a week for an online Benz dealer to tell me they are NLA!

A few things:

Did you contact PP before posting here? What did they say?

No vendor is going to keep everything on the shelf, they are going to rely on other wholesale only warehouses to completely fill orders. This results in orders sometimes being delayed beyond the control of the consumer level vendor. The consumer level vendor is also at the mercy of the wholesale warehouses inventory control system / others ordering parts before the consumer level web site can be updated.

In the old days, one would page through a paper catalog, fill out a form, attach a money order then post it off to the sellers address. Now with the internet instant service is expected but not always possible.

It costs a certain amount of $ to process an order, no business is going to survive very long if the cost of filling an order exceeds any profit realized. Some industrial vendors I deal with have line item minimum charges / total order minimum in order to cover this.

Agreed, to a point. OP and I both ordered products being advertised as in stock at their warehouse. If this isn't the case then it shouldn't be advertised as such.

In pelican's defense, I've had zero problems with any of my other twenty orders from them in the last few years.
