Strange clicking sound from left A/C vent.....

OK, the 1984 300DT has had a strange intermittant clicking sound coming from the area of the left A/C vent. Sometimes when I turn the car off the clicking continues. Also, sometimes if I turn on the emergency flashers then turn them off, the clicking stops. Any ideas?
