No 3rd or 4th gear

My 85 300D California recently stopped shifting into 3rd.
under hard or soft acceleration it shifts from 1st to 2nd fine/perfect,
then at what seems like the correct shift point for 3rd,
it's like it goes to neutral, nothing there.
If I coast it'll eventually shift back to 2nd.
If I stop, it'll start over in 1st.
Reverse working perfect.

I changed the fluid and filter, no change. It was pretty dirty.
There was a tiny amount of shrapnel in the pan.
A couple slivers of aluminum, like stripped threads.
And a chunk of green plastic, about 1/8" wide.
I'll try to post a pic.

I did the B2 on both my other cars, I don't think that's the problem here…
It seems like a clogged/stuck valve body, to me.

I'm hoping one of you trans gurus will tell me it's a simple external repair.
I'm not up to pulling the trans here, or a rebuild.

Any ideas or input greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bri

There is a chart in the thread below. It shows that K1 is used in shift 3 and shift 4. Maybe that is your problem. Just a guess.

722.4 transmission now shifts from first to fourth

Most likely the K1 clutch pack...requires a teardown.
