HELP! Stripped locking plate screws on IP
I went to change my delivery valve seals, and the hex screws that hold the locking plates are frozen and are stripped! I put PB penetrating catalyst and let it sit, but no use at all. Help please! I obviously am not going to use heat near the IP. I'm afraid of ruining the threads by drilling them out.
Advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kris |

Did you try vice grips like I suggested in the other thread you posted in? If that doesn't work, some heat is going to be required.

These work great, but I don't know what your hex screws look like so YMMV. The 4 inch would probably work. Notice the gripping head. Also try ATF fluid and acetone mixed 50/50.

When all else fails, weld a nut to the head and them remove quickly with an impact

I believe that those mounting points on the IP are thru-drilled, so once you get the old screws out, you can use a nut/bolt instead.
Vice grips is your friend, or grind off the heads with a dremel tool and then drill out the remains.

Can you get a small chisel on the edge of the fastener and hit it in direction to unscrew it? I have had success removing stripped fasteners that way.

If the Bolts break off you can simply do without the locking plates.
If ou have one of those little butane torcehs that fits in the palm of your hand you can apply some heat. You can also take a punch and put inside the allen head and give it one sharp but light rap.
