Changed oil in 1984 300DT - slightly overfilled.

Just changed the oil in the 1984 300DT. I ended up overfilling it a tad bit, just barely above the "full" mark. The car is known to burn a little oil so I'm thinking the level will eventually go down. Is the slight overfill going to be a problem?

Not if it's just a little. More than likely it'll burn or leak out in short order. If it worries you you can drain the crankcase into a clean pan (I use a few turkey pans from Big Lots or similar). Cover the pans once they're full to keep the crud out (aluminum foil works fine) then reinstall the plug and strain the oil back in less a small amount - paint strainers work fine for that and I have those by the 100's but you can usually get them at the hardware store.

I really doubt the drain-and-refill routine is necessary - a little overfill is not a big deal. Besides, while I can't speak for M-Bs I've found that in general dipsticks are often off a bit.

When I change the oil in mine, I just dump in a full two gallons. That puts the level a tad bit over full, after about 5000 miles the level drops down to a tad under full. Never had a problem doing that.

I don't think the marks on the stick are super accurate. They look like a curvaceous lady's hips. If you touch too high up or down, that lady will slap you, otherwise OK.

If itt was above the max mark before you started the engine, it'll settle once the filter soaks.

I've been doing this ^ for the 3 years/70,000 miles I've owned my '77. No issues.
