Anyone had any dealings with these folks in FL. They have some nice looking but high priced Diesels. I am planning to purchase a diesel this summer to become my main ride and do want a car not needing constant attention other than maintenance. I'm considering these folks based on their feedback for cars they occasionally sell on E-bay. Recommendations regarding other national dealers happily accepted. Thanks Much.

Good question, I think that it all depends on what it's worth to you.

I don't have any personal experience with them although I too have seen nice looking cars on their site. Not too long ago they offered a 1985 300TD wagon, white with palomino MB Tex interior. Supposedly there was no rust anywhere and all paperwork came with it. They wanted 11,900.00!!!!!

IMO, for that kind of money there ought to be absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle- in fact, I think that the vehicle should have been subject to an extensive inspection and refurbishment/ minor restoration prior to sale. Records are important but at what cost? Also, just because there is no rust showing on the outside doesn't mean that it's not on the inside!

A friend of mine who is a benz owner for many years drove the 1984 blue 300td and pronounced it as new. Everything works, one owner car, always garaged, all service records from day 1, books, orthopaedic seats...car is perfect. Asking price is 12.9k and they were ready to sell it to me with shipping/tax for 12k (to California). I found another car with more miles for a lot less money but I think this car is worth 11k. It is in better condition than my current 300TE which is lovely.

Speak to Meta.

I found a car on their site that I'm interested in. Has anyone else actually bought from them, or heard good/bad experiences...?

BTW, Carl, your white 300D is now deceased... victim of a high-speed rear-ending.

Regards,

I bought my 190D 2.2 from them. I'd say that I've been pretty satisfied with the car, but I think there were several pre-existing problems they covered up. I've had to fix the cooling system and brakes. When I got there, it had a quikie paint job put on it. There is overspray everywhere. The wheels were repainted while ON THE CAR (calipers have silver paint on them--I've seen this before) and are peeling. It had the brake fluid bled through in an obvious attempt to mask the brake problems to come. It had the cooling system flushed and refilled (with the green stuff), but nothing actually fixed.

When you get to their dealership, the lights are pretty low, so you can't spot flaws. They also over detail their cars. Everything is gone over meticuously and there is tire shine on every rubber part. When I was there, they didn't have temp tags on their cars: You have to buy before driving.

And you better get the documentation/dealer's fees squared right away. They won't just come out and tell you what these are, you've got to ask.

That being said, it was a nice car and I drive it every day.

Still, I think overall these folks are sleazy. This isn't in the greatest part of Ft. Lauderdale. If you can find the car while it is for sale by private owner, you are better off. After all, that is all they are doing: combing the FSBO ads and auctions.

Are there ANY dealers that can be trusted! Geez. I originally started this thread a while ago, just after getting my first diesel and realizing it was a POS. I was hoping to find someplace trustworthy for acquiring a nice older diesel in good shape. For me it is now just going to turn into a personal search with perhaps an reputable appraiser for cars too far away to check out. FWIW, Viti Bros in RI can be trusted (I think, just heard good things about them). They had an SD last year, wanted 23K for it. I nearly choked but after looking at the car I wouldn't have had much of a problem paying say 17~18 for it. Very nice and a nice strong warranty for it.

I'm a native Floridian, and love living here. But the state is home to every sleazeball practicing every kind of scam known to mankind. Be very cautious buying a car from here, and certainly don't buy without seeing it yourself and getting a prepurchase inspection.

I'm starting to think that the reason I can't find any MB of any year or model in a junkyard here is because they are all being sold off on Ebay as driveable cars.

FWIW, Meta, et al, are from New Jersey. Not that I have anything against people from NJ, it's just that I get the feeling these folks moved down to Florida to "exploit the resource" so to speak.

Once again, the car isn't really bad: perfect compression, it started at 8 deg F this winter, and no real mechanical probs. It just was misrepresented as a perfectly maintained, fully functional, and original car. That is the only part of the deal I felt shafted on. I EXPECT to have to fix multiple items when buying an older used car, but not if it is represented otherwise.

I agree with Rick about Florida "is home to every sleazeball practicing every kind of scam known to mankind". I live in California and have never been to the east, but all the stupid and deceptive advertising schemes I've seen seem to come from Florida.

And FWIW, my POS diesel came from NJ. The car was being represented as a FL car. Talk about the worst of all worlds. Rust-Free thay said. I've put more fiberglass on this thing than a Corvette just to slow down the leaks.

Viti

I in fact live in the town (Tiverton) where Viti is located. They are a very reputable dealership indeed.

Rust eh RM? That sucks. My car was free, so I put the fiberglass on when I see a hole. Its holding up well now..

I have bought two used cars from Nick's Exclusive Mercedes Service in Lafayette, California. He is primarily a service provider but has cars to sell for his customers from time to time. I bought a concours condition 1978 280CE and a close to perfect 1990 300TE from Nick. Both cars were correct; ie, no hidden problems, no surprises...as represented and fairly priced. A friend bought a 1984 300SD w/rebuilt motor/tranny for 5500 and is ecstatic with his purchase (his first diesel and first benz).

So, if you are in the neighbourhood see what Nick has. His service is good although not terribly cheap (but less than the dealers for sure and other local independents).

Yep, or more accurately, a couple of the posters (not Aaron directly). I was told by a member of the MBZ.org diesel list that he went to their showroom once while on business travel in FL. He said all their cars were pristine, but wasn't in the market at the time (AFAIK) and didn't seriously investiagte any (get a PPI, etc). So far I haven't heard too much bad about the cars they have, and I'm more concerned with getting something REALLY clean & well maintained, with service records to prove it. Of course the price will have to come down at least SOME amount...!
