Where To Find Om617 Garrett T3 Turbo Wastegate Gasket?

I'm rebuilding a Garrett T3 turbocharger to swap out in my 1980 W116 300SD. I took apart the wastegate to inspect it (and good thing I did because the valve is covered in carbon and needs to be lapped) and I found that the metal gasket on the wastegate cover is cracked.

I've searched all over and the only place I found that has them is the source of the Mercedes kits in Washington, but they are out of stock. They seem like they might be specific to Mercedes. I wonder if I could make a gasket out of a sheet of copper or aluminum.

Does anyone know where I can get one of these? EPC doesn't even show a part number.

Is there a local tuning shop that works on turbos?
How about Ride Now Powersports on West Bell Road?

I had one come in the intake and exhaust manifold to head set, set was about $25 I recall. I pulled my turbocharger to reseal the drain piping and install a block heater.

6170900680 is the PN I used from 'That' place in Arizona.

What now? If WG = wastegate, my 10/84 production 300SD has a wastegated T3.

Let us see if this upload works -

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

This is the ARV version of the T3 on my SD. Most SDs I have seen with the KKK are 82-83.

My SDL came with the KKK, I have seen those with both. Seems, at least in my region, the SDL in 86 had the T3 and the KKK was later. I have never seen a non ARV KKK on a SDL.

1983/300CD - Thanks for the tip.

Hit Man X - I looked and it doesn't show it in the picture (though it does show a turbo to exhaust manifold gasket that looks similar, but is different). But maybe they still include it?

panZZer - I think all the Mercedes turbos have wastegates to protect the engine from overpressure. I haven't seen one without a wastegate and even the 1978 300SDs came with them.

The source of the guy with the Mercedes gaskets was nice enough to give me the part number since they don't plan on restocking them due to low sales. It is Garrett part number 409262-0000 Actuator Gasket. I ordered one from Superior Turbo (look them or the part number up on an internet search).

I highly advise replacing this gasket during a turbo rebuild as they always seem to be cracked and leak out turbo pressure. I also recommend cleaning and lapping the actuator valve with lapping compounds in the same way one would lap an engine intake or exhaust valve.

Exclamation

Oh no, I thought you needed turbocharger to exhaust manifold gasket. Sorry.

It's always something--Superior Turbo suddenly freaked out right before sending me the invoice and said that they do not have rights to sell Garrett products and I would have to locate my local vendor, which is Turbo Auto Diesel in Phoenix.

I tried to buy this part on other websites, but none of them will ship to Arizona. So, I called Turbo Auto Diesel and they said they don't have the part, and to try looking online. I asked if they could order one, and they said that they probably aren't available. I asked them to please look it up anyway because online vendors are saying I have to buy one from a local vendor.

They said that they think they can get one, or at least one that is close enough to work, but it could be 2 weeks or more and they'll call me back when they know for sure. Companies still rebuild these turbos, right? They rebuild the wastegates as part of the price, right? Or do they not touch them and if the wastegate parts go bad, they are considered not rebuildable?

I might have to not use a gasket and hope that the gap clogs up with enough carbon to seal it. Or, hope that the one in the turbo on my car is still intact because the one that came out of the one I am rebuilding is cracked.

I've been reading up on making gaskets for turbos and I am reading that aluminum or copper won't stand up to the heat of a turbo and will melt or blow out. Maybe that's why the original gasket was steel.

I think I was able to pull some strings with Superior Turbo. Normally they drop ship direct from the parts company to the buyer (but Garrett will not allow this), however they think they can get one if they order one in to their location and then ship to me from there.

I must be getting my gasket because Superior Turbo withdrew the money from my bank account. The price for the part was $14, but they withdrew $30 from my account. I imagine there might be tax and shipping, but $16 worth on a little metal gasket that can fit in a padded envelope? At this point I'll just be glad to have one, though.

The new gasket arrived from Superior Turbo. Yes! It cost $14.36 to ship it (which seems excessive, but I might be paying for the shipping from Garrett to them and then from them to me, although manufacturers usually already factor that into the price) plus tax, but I'm just grateful to have it.
