MB shop around Puget sound area

Anybody have a recommendation for a good shop? I'm up near Port Townsend and need a rear wheel bearing for my 79 240D. One of the "Benz Friendz" brothers used to have a shop in Burien but I don't know if they are still an option, haven't seen them in years. I usually do all my own work but I'm not up for this job, groon Thanks in advance for any advice, Steve

*I have heard good news with Mercedes Shoppe in puyallup, although I have not had work done by them personally. I have called them a few times when I was stumped on something I was working on, and they always offered friendly advice.

*There is a place down by me in Lacey called German Car Service. I think they will work on a w123 but mostly deal with newer stuff.

*Theres also a place up in north seattle called Strictly Mercedes Benz. I haven't really heard anything about this place that I can remember, But I used to lived by it and would drive by frequently. Quite a few times I have seen w123s being worked on there.

Hope that helps.

If you just need the socket to remove the weird nut, I think I have one somewhere.

Blazemaster, Thanks for the info. Yes, the socket was a concern when I considered doing the job myself. I may find someone local to do it, if so I'll take you up on the socket offer if they dont have it. We had a couple good shops around here but both guys died within the last few years. I'll check out the shops you mentioned, again thanks. Steve

Depending on the worth of the car. Plus the price for the job there. I might consider pulling a complete assembly from a wreck and changing it myself. Not hard to check in place for wear.

I have yet to have the thrill of buying the rear bearing, crush washer etc. I suspect they might be substantial dollars for a good brand. Plus a person or mechanic not familiar could screw up the job. I will be parting out a 123 with low miles but a lot of rust soon.

I will save the pre installed rear bearing assemblies. I hear a little noise in the back in my 84 123. I suspect it may be a bearing. So will use one assembly off the parted car. f this proves to be the case.

Bearing price was not as bad as I suspected. One thirty five from Peachparts for the Mercedes original quality bearing. It is too hard to change to risk using a cheap bearing. I have really had it risking bearings produced in China.

I had read all the threads i could find and am considering doing what you suggest, using a rear "trailing arm" from a parts car. I actually have five parts cars in fairly good shape and I'm still in pretty good shape for an old guy but I'm not sure I'm up to pulling a trailing arm. I have a friend who was an MB mechanic
I might get to do it. I definitely wouldn't let someone do the job unless they had done it before, especially after I read about some of the "pit falls". Thats why I'm considering forking out the green to a good MB shop. I dont need to be in a hurry so I can explore the options. Thanks for the reply, Steve

Mercedes source is up there somewhere. I'm sure they are as expensive as hell though.

I got a chance to pull the RR wheel off and observed the brake pads were shot and when I pulled the pins the (ATE) keeper fell out in two pieces. I replaced the pads on both sides and a test drive around block produced no, what I thought was bearing noise, (never having heard a rear bearing noise)
Maybe I felt it had to be time for that sort of job as after having these cars for years I've never had to do a axle or sub frame type job so I think I lucked out, Thanks for your help all. Steve
