That add worries me. Is the owner hidding damage or is he too lazy to remove car cover?

Also imo it's overpriced, 2k more with a car with more mileage and a sketchy looking add.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

This W116 has been on craigslist for like 10 months. I tried emailing half dozen times but got no reply back. Would call but no number listed. Very strange

I'm biased but I think a W124 or W201 is a better bet for reliability and ease of getting parts at this age, also just being nicer cars in general (maybe besides the later W126). Preferably an M104 with EFI if you go for a W124, otherwise an OM602 in either chassis would be another good bet. M103s are also great if the CIS is working properly but can get expensive/frustrating to fix when it's not working properly. W201s and W124s have more complex suspension that probably wears out quicker than a W116, W126, or W123 but it's not a hard job to redo it unless you are also redoing the rear subframe bushings as well.

I guess the best bet for you is to find a car you like that's been taken care of, it's worth it to pay more upfront for a good example versus having to do repairs all the time.

Get a 190D, 200D, 220D, or 240D in good condition with minimal rust. You won't ever want another car after that!
