Brake part quality recommendations? (Current vs. old data.) Disappointed with OE!
I know this has been beaten to death in the past, but with things being as dynamic as they are regarding parts quality in recent years, I’m looking for your current opinions and info.
Last time I did the brakes on my w210 I sourced the rotors (and pads) from the MBZ dealer - thinking that should eliminate guesswork as to quality control. Unfortunately the rotors developed high spots (a.k.a. incorrectly known as “warping”) after a shorter time than I feel is reasonable. I am undoubtedly hard on brakes, but I didn’t expect the OE rotors to crap out so quickly. So… what have you guys found to be the better choices for rotors nowadays? I don’t care about saving $20, I want them to be DURABLE. Thanks in advance for your help… RTH

Are you sure it isn't a film built up on the braking components? Sometimes you can get an uneven glaze layer that gives an effect nearly identical to that of a warped/uneven rotor.

That's a good point, and I've hit a couple of high spots (on the exposed side of one of the front rotors) with some sandpaper just to see if it's a glazed material buildup. Unfortunately I made shiny metal scratches immediately - so no significant buildup.
And BTW, when I install new brakes, I always bed them in using a methodical & controlled pattern to establish an even coating of transferred pad material. Even with that, these MBZ dealer supplied rotors still high-spotted on me. I wish I could get warranty replacements, but I'm long since past that 1-year limit. I remember thinking that hell froze over when URO proudly announced that they were supplying MBZ with engine mounts for older vehicles. So I wonder who their supplier is for w210 rotors now?

Running Too Hot
Quote:
So now I know how your user name "runningtohot" came about...as in "he's all over those binders" seems to fit LOL....kidding The dealer MBs are the only ones I have had good luck with...and I've tried the big names sold by part # that were supposed to be the same. No help I know. Maybe you got a bad set?
