I think that if the Glow Plug is actually moving as you turn it I would go with feeding it the PB Blastster and turn it one way and then back the other till it is loose. Doing that also helps to wick in the PB Blaster.

The 2 major rasons for a stuck Glow Plug are Carbon got past the sealing sholder and filled in the empty space sort of freezing it in with carbon and or the threads on the Glow Plug got corroded.

Hitting it with an impact wrench does not deal with the Carbon issue as well as letting the PB Blaster soak into the carbon might.

Bun unfotunately I have had to do it myself. I am going by experience with other things.

I would start with the least likely to break the Glow Plug methods first the go on to the others.

When you install the new Glow Plugs use a never-sieze type compound on the threads and some put some on the body also but not the tip.

The many impacts of the gun dislodge the carbon and dislodge it and get the glow plug out. Ream the holes and call it a day.

It'll run just fine without the intake in place. Just noisier, intake sucking sounds, etc... but the engine won't know the difference.

Take care as there will be 12 little mouths trying to suck things in.

I like the idea of the JB Weld / six point socket.

Heat is your friend, plug in the block heater for 30+ minutes, start the car (intake off is OK, just be careful nothing gets sucked in) and get it fully warmed up, and then try loosening the plug. Slowly work it in both directions in small movements, patience is your friend.

If it is still stuck and not yet broken off, I'd remove the injector for that cylinder and rig a small tube to apply penetrating oil to the inside end of the glow plug. I had great success with that method on a plug that was stuck. Give the penetrating oil some time to work, overnight would be best.

Every little bit helps, try 50/50 acetone/synthetic atf, best penetrating fluid available.

Or you can just do the gator grip and an impact and save yourself time and call it a day. Everyone seems against the impact.

Probably, but I have a code puller so I can clear them.

Quick note all, got a Gator Grip socket on my lunch break today.

The plug has been letting the PB soak in after several applications. By the time I get to it it will be over 30 hours.

Going to clean out the intake holes as they are so caked with black exhaust so from the EGR that I am frankly amazed it was getting any air at all.

After which, I will fire it up, let it warm up a bit then give that Gator Grip a try.

I'll let you know how it goes...😉

This is something you can try.

1) GP is normally 12mm on the OM603, not sure about OM606 but I would expect the same.

2) Try using a 12 points socket.

3) Try using a 6 points socket, sometimes it has better grip.

4) If all fail, hammer in a 11mm socket. You have nothing to use.

5) Last resort, use a bolt extractor like this

good luck.

btw: I seriously doubt the GP was turning. I think it was turning because you rounded it off. I hope I am wrong.

I was able to back it out about half way, so it was turning. Thanks!

Listen to what Jake12tech tells you, I am the guy he has walked through the process of removing stuck glow plugs and I can guarantee you it works if you are patient.
Run the engine with intake off to get it hot, then turn it off and go at it with a 3/8" impact and pressure regulator set between 30 and 40 psi.
Trust me, Jake12tech is the master at this!

I got it out and replaced. Since the corners we're so rounded off, I finally resorted to getting out the Dremel, putting a diamond grinder bit on it and taking the sides ever so carefully down until an 11mm fit on it. Warmed her up and out cam the plug. Thanks all for the help!

Hope not. I like to think I saved ya potentially $1k or more on shop bills on a machine shop extracting the glow plugs.

Glad I was able to help you and introduce my innovation to someone else.
