I trust a reman in Mexico far more than China.
"Trust" is a big word; I suggest you look it up in Websters, Funk and Wagnells, OED, etc. I tend to live by my uncle's philsophy...DTA (DON'T TRUST ANYONE).

The compressor came with a plate over the ports. It came pressurized! I heard air escaping when I removed the plate to drain the oil it was shipped with.

Got it installed! Being evac/ pressure tested. Looks good so far. Maybe charge tomorrow if all goes well.

There is an aluminum insert on one of the ports. Did you have one in yours? I am not sure what it's real purpose is but I think it lends support to the rubber seal as the manifold is tightened. Did you inspect the manifold and port mating sealing surfaces of the compressor for nicks and damages? Very strange!

Why do you trust reman in Mexico far more than China?

Under the ports cover seal plate were these black o-rings, which are clearly fatter and smaller diameter than the ones in the sealed bag provided by 4 Seasons. The green ones is from a re-seal kit I previously purchased and they look correct and is what I installed.

I wonder why they call it "4 seasons", as if someone is running their a/c in the winter time. They ought to change their name to "1 season". It would move them up a few positions in the Yellow Pages too!

Defroster will run your AC in the wintertime. Sucks the moisture out of the air.

Wow; excellent. As I remember mine came with different colored rings about 15 years ago and no instructions. I used the green ones with success.

Did you rent something to pressurize and check for leaks? That is what is holding me back now. And you did rent a machine to vac down the system; that is good to know.

I didn't know one can rent a vac pump at Autozone. Was that an electric one which pulls a deep vacuum (rotary vane w/ oil)? Is it a free rental (pay, refund when returned)? I bought the HF vac pump when on sale a few years ago (~$40) and already used it several times. Seems to work well, and you can really hear the sound change as it gets the vacuum down (quieter). 45 F at the vents is great, indeed you don't want 32 F or the condenser will ice up. In NYC, AC's main task is to remove humidity, which can actually require more energy than cooling the dry air of LA.

Aurozone rents single stage vac pumps around here. You pay, use up to 90 days, return for refund.

Last summer, I made adapters to pressure test every component in the system, that's how I learned all my hoses and evaporator are not leaking. I also came up with a really cool and easy way to vacuum flush the entire system in one fell swoop. Do a search if you want to learn more about it. The adapters are not for rent. Too much hassles.

But how did you pressurize it to look for leaks?

I have Argon with a regulator. Not as good but you can use compressed air.
