found another high mileage e300

It has 420K on it. I have a '99 with 436K that's my daily and runs like a raped ape and would drive to california tomorrow. The '99 I'm looking at has a terrible misfire. I found the car a couple months ago in Jersey. I'm revisiting the idea of picking it up and trading the guy some stuff for the car. It reeks of white smoke out the exhaust (diesel) and pours smoke out of the valve cover where the injectors are. At that mileage, should I be concerned this is a bottom end issue like rings or a bad piston? It was driving ok before this happened. Cylinder doesn't come back with revs and no indication of air in the lines.

I worked on a '95 with a bad misfire before that with the same symptoms, but had a bad valve and was very neglected. This car is very well maintained and was driving plenty ok before with lots of new parts from MB.

I think I also need a program like car addiction anonymous meetings. Someone save me. :D:rolleyes:

You really have three w210 diesels already? Wow, you do need professional help! Just like the rest of us. :)

The more I drive my 98 E300 the more I like them.

Can't beat the ride quality and the fuel economy by ant means.

Jake my friend, I don't know anything about the smoke problems you are dealing with but I do know if the glow plugs are stuck, you WILL get them out!!

Impact or nothing on those glow plugs from hell. :)

Sounds like injectors need to be rebuilt. Poor atomization.

Do you think that it could be an injector that could cause a dead misfire? If the cylinder is getting no fuel with the line cracked... What does that mean?

Try any modern Japanese hybrid luxo barge.

I'd pass on one. It doesn't have a soul. The w210 has character. Don't get me wrong their nice. The only Japanese car that I've ever liked and driven was a manual IS 300 with a 2jz.

I think GS350 taillights trade hands for more than 440,000 mile 210s, so there's a barrier to entry.

Plus the whole depreciation thing. Japanese luxury cars make for poor investments, especially compared with a fully depreciated 20 year old E300.

If you crack the line and no fuel comes out, you clearly have an IP issue. Either the pumping element is kaput or the DV is screwed up somehow. I'd still expect fuel to flow with a FUBAR DV though.
