Where I live, there's lots of people who like to drive REALLY fast. Accelerate quickly as well. I've noticed that with the A/C off, my little 240D with the 4 speed usually keeps up pretty well with acceleration of traffic. I usually shift around 3500-4000rpm for the first two shifts, then into 4th by around 45 if not earlier due to the speed limit. However, with A/C running, its a completely different animal. If I fully engage the clutch too quickly, foot to the floor at 1500rpm it barely seems to move... And the A/C is a must around here. Speed is no issue, however. I like to keep it to about 60-65 due to the 3.69 gears, but I've been on reasonably long trips doing about 70-80mph with no issues other than the noise. I've had people pass me at the stop light because I accelerated too slowly, just for me to pass them down the road as they proceed to drive 5mph under the speed limit... go figure.
