fan clutch question
I was looking at some auctions on ebay and saw one for a fan clutch (300D). I then got to thinking how my 240D does not have one (at least I don't think it does). Does anyone know why the 300D would have a fan clutch and not the 240D?

The fan on the 240D is "old" school. The theory behind the fan clutch is that as the car is moving down the road (requiring less cooling from the fan) then the clutch kinda "free-wheels" cutting the hp requirements for the fan, thus providing more hp for use in running the car down the road.

I would think that the 240D would need a fan clutch over the 300D due to the fact that the 300D has more power and is the same size car. Maybe Mercedes wanted to cut costs on the cheaper 240D and opted not to put the fan clutch on.
